My now-yearly visit to the Central Park pet memorial, now that I know where it is.

I notice that most or all of the photos have been slashed through. They certainly were not like this last time. My first thought is that maybe that was done so that they would not fly away in the wind? But there is no way that somebody trying to help would cut right through a photo of an animal's head or face like on a lot of these. A few have been cut clean through, with pieces on the floor beneath the tree.

What kind of person does something like this? I almost wish it was done out of anger, out of sadness. At least that would be honest, at least that would make the act somehow meaningful to the person, however dickish and hurtful to everybody else. No, the worst thing would be if it was done by some kid for no reason at all, just because they were bored or they thought it would impress someone. In any case, it pretty much puts me in a terrible mood for the rest of the weekend.

The Randel survey bolt, more about which can be learned here.

Are these starlings?
