Moim, Park Slope, Brooklyn, with Dagfinn and Lana.
Despite Dagfinn and Lana's insistence that the place serves "authentic" Korean food, one look at their website and their decor is almost enough to convince me otherwise. It reminds more of Bann than anything else. The two of them each order the dolsot bibimbap, I get the kalbi.
And what a surprise -- the food (both kalbi and bibimbap) actually is "authentic", and very good to boot. Unfortunately, the service not so much, as the kalbi comes with no sides other than rice, a small bowl of kimchi, a few lettuce leaves, and a mere dab of daenjang. New York restaurants, PLEASE don't serve kalbi without plenty of garlic (cooked AND raw), bean sprouts, spinach, sesame leaves, lots of daenjang, a full plate of romaine, and MORE KIMCHI (and not just the cabbage kind, either!). Also, not to be a jerk or anything, but the waiter can't pronounce "Hite". Hey, you know what? That's a really jerky thing to point out. Forget I mentioned it.
(Not a fan of Korean beer anyway, but I actually prefer Cass, if only cos their label doesn't look like freaking 7-Up.)
Good food, but for the money I think you're better off sticking to the places on 32nd. Moim's a decent option if you're in the neighborhood and dying for Korean, though.
Miracle of miracles, it only takes me half an hour to get home.
